Navigating Language Instruction in the Digital Age

An Avenue Video Testimonial from a LINC Professional

Swati Sinha is a passionate and dedicated ESL instructor with extensive experience teaching in India and in Canada. Currently, she teaches both in-person and online at various levels in the LINC program at COSTI Immigrant Services.

In spring 2024 New Language Solutions commissioned an expert team to profile a LINC professional who implements Avenue in their teaching. In the seven minute video, Swati explains the impacts of Avenue.ca on her teaching and her learners.

Our Avenue team hopes you find Swati’s thoughts and reflections as inspiring as we do. She has implemented Technology-enhanced language learning (TELL) thoughtfully and made sure that Avenue reinforces and amplifies the social engagement of face to face language learning.

Once a newcomer to Canada herself and having learned English as a second language, Swati understands the inhibitions and challenges of ESL learners. She tries to maintain an inclusive and supportive  environment in class where learners feel comfortable to explore and develop their language skills. She is able to engage adult learners from diverse backgrounds and language levels with equal effectiveness.

In her quest to develop engaging and productive lessons, she realized the need to incorporate technology. She completed Avenue Stage 3 training and has since then used this resource both in online and in-person classes. Swati is OCELT certified. She finds the process of teaching highly meditative and gratifying. In her free time, she indulges in reading and gardening.
